THE FIRM AND ITS GROWTH TRAJECTORY

Law Staff has been engaged by the Board of this established yet growing national partnership. It has offices in the key major centres of Australia, as well as international affiliations, and its Partner earnings sit high in the income strata of prominent CBD law firms.

It is a firm that is highly engaged with their clients and is seeking a similarly minded highly driven individual to work collaboratively with 2 other Commercial Real Estate & Property Partners (at the mid and senior level) to achieve strategic growth plans over the next 5 years.

ABOUT YOU

First and foremost, you will enjoy and be passionate about the practice of law. Whilst you will be referred matters internally due to the current team being over-utilised, a Partner level appointment will reflect your client profile such that you will have developed a loyal client following that you will expect to transition with you because of your reputation for delivering exceptional service that is commercial, and technically accurate.

Whilst there is some flexibility in terms of your current work mix, experience in these areas is not essential, yet to be compatible you will ideally have experience across any 3 of the following areas:
  • acquisitions and disposals of commercial properties including those associated with private equity holdings, super funds and real estate investment trusts.
  • property development including industrial parks, shopping centres, and residential towers;
  • asset transfers associated with resources and utilities infrastructure;
  • negotiation and drafting of ancillary contracts; and or
  • other general commercial property work.
You will be responsible for the ongoing management and development of client relationships, as well as assisting in the supervision of staff to meet your client needs.

You may currently be part of an existing Partnership but feeling like a number rather than being in control of your practice. You may also be at Special Counsel level knocking on the door of partnership yet internal politics is preventing your elevation.

This particular firm offers a platform to perform and get on with the practice of law while they take care of the back-end management of the business. It is inclusive and cohesive, with a management team that works with you complementing your own style of client management.

You may also be looking to increase your earning capacity, without having to work longer hours. This firm is about working smarter, not harder.

In stark contrast to other national practices, the firm promotes true work-life balance. As such, they are able to accommodate reduced hours and/or a blended 'office+remote' engagement to suit the individual's personal circumstances.

In terms of your earnings, you can expect to be remunerated in accordance with the profile you carry in your area of practice and the relationships you can bring to the table. Indicative of this is Salaried Partner earnings starting at $400K through to equity partner earnings well north of $1.2m.

OUR EXPERIENCE

In challenging times, there has been the need for law firms to re-calibrate in order to maintain a competitive advantage and a sustainable profit pool for its Partners. Those that have managed this expertly have emerged as magnets to other partners looking to transition their clients to a more profitable platform.

With over 30 years as specialist consultants to the legal profession, Law Staff has an impressive history of facilitating discreet moves for partners and whole teams across to specialist, mid or top-tier practices, all while providing critical intelligence on:
  • Individual profitability of the relevant firms;
  • Partnership structures and equity distribution;
  • Strategic growth plans;
  • Intra/Cross practice compatibility;
  • Historical transitions;
  • Performance expectations; as well as
  • Partnership culture and idiosyncrasies (trust us when we say that no one firm is perfect).
In addition, our Senior Client Advisors have assisted hundreds of partners in writing detailed business plans that identify only relevant information including key practice components as well as transitioning requirements, and less of the white noise. We advise you when the appropriate time is to table this information to ensure your commercial interests are preserved. Most importantly, we will only ever confer with the relevant Board or Managing Partner after you have done your research and at a time when you have expressed in writing to us that you are ready to take that cautious next step. Absolutely everything stays in the vault until that time. A list of partner references on Law Staff's performance can be made available at your request.
