An opportunity has arisen for an Associate-level Employment & WHS Lawyer to join a busy and growing team within a nationally recognised commercial law firm in Brisbane.

Working closely with senior lawyers with top-tier and international backgrounds, you will contribute to both advisory and contentious matters for a sophisticated employer client base across the full employment lifecycle, industrial relations strategy and workplace safety. This role suits a lawyer looking to take ownership of files and progress within a supportive, well-structured environment.

Key Highlights
  • Nationally recognised commercial law firm with deep heritage
  • High-performing Employment & Workplace Safety practice
  • Complex exposure across Employment, IR & WHS
  • Senior mentorship + structured supervision without micromanagement
  • Weekly planning meeting for clarity, allocation and progression
  • Flat team structure with strong retention
  • Cross-practice exposure to employer groups, boards & executives
The Role
The Employment & Workplace Safety team advises across employment, industrial relations and workplace safety, with a mix of advisory and disputes.
You will be involved in:
  • Advisory work on terminations, performance management, investigations & compliance
  • Unfair dismissal, general protections and IR disputes
  • Enterprise bargaining, industrial action and WHS investigations
  • Tribunal and commission advocacy including Fair Work, IR Commissions, Human Rights bodies and QCAT
  • Providing commercial, solutions-focused advice to employer clients
Exposure may also extend to matters arising from the broader commercial division, providing additional context and variety.

Why You’ll Thrive Here
The firm invests deliberately in culture and career development. Weekly planning meetings (in-person or video) provide visibility, direction and support, while one-on-one touchpoints throughout the week offer guidance without unnecessary hierarchy.

You can expect:

  • Flexible work arrangements supporting balance
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for employees & families
  • Financial support for postgraduate study + study leave
  • Structured learning & development pathways
  • Secondment opportunities + international network access
  • Health, wellbeing, social & sporting initiatives
  • Paid parental leave
  • Pooled administrative support and efficient systems
These benefits reflect a firm that values high performance alongside wellbeing, curiosity and growth.

About You
You will ideally bring:
  • Minimum 3 years’ PAE in employment law, industrial relations and/or WHS
  • Strong technical foundations with a practical, solutions-focused mindset
  • A genuine interest in building client relationships and contributing to a growing team
